A solid rifle is an absolute must-have for a successful deer season, but picking out the right rifle for you is no easy task. You need a rifle with enough power to drop a whitetail reliably, but without too much recoil. Lighter cartridges usually shoot flatter, while heavier rounds tend to penetrate better upon impact. Your grandad swears by his old 30-30 with iron sights, but your friend mentions he shoots 8.6 Blackout suppressed with a red dot. I’m just scratching the surface of the debate on a deer hunting gun, but you get my point!
