Osprey (CE) 3000 Reel….Product Review

There seems to be a new player in the fishing reel industry. Florida Fishing Products has recently started to gain some attention in the fishing tackle industry and especially in the rod and reel area. Their top of the line reel is the Osprey Carbon Edition or (CE) edition. It’s their lightest reel so far at just over 8 ounces with 22 pounds of drag capacity. It features 9 stainless steel bearings as well as 2 Eco-Sealed bearings. The reel comes in 1000, 2500, 3000 and 4000 versions.

This reel offers a high level of cast ability combined with a stellar balance. One of the most noticeable features is the drag system which is smooth and impressively consistent. The carbon based aspect makes the reel both lightweight and sturdy. I found that the high level of lightness played right into the needs of anglers fishing inshore in the marsh flats, and especially for the topwater and artificial fishermen. It will be popular for those fishing for the big bull redfish or tarpon in the skinny waters of the Carolina coast.

Using the Osprey (CE)  3000 was definitely a unique experience. From the lightness of the reel to the smoothness of the retrieve and also the loud drag clicker. After looking into the background, I learned that the reels were designed specifically to accommodate the Florida anglers that fished artificials for the bigger inshore fish. With that in mind, Florida Fishing Products went to the drawing board and the reel was created.

Now, I need to tell you, the pricing of these reels may initially surprise you, but when you use it your apprehension will quickly disappear. If you’re an avid inshore, light tackle addict the Osprey (CE) line is a great option and actually a lot of reel and quality for the money.
