Trolling For Redfish…….Great Idea For A Slow Day

Here’s great advice for fishing for Redfish during the warmer months! Trolling can be an effective method for targeting these fish when they’re less active due to warmer water temperatures. Here’s a concise summary, along with a few tips:

  1. Understand Feeding Behavior:
    • Redfish can become lethargic and feed in short, unpredictable bursts in warmer water.
  2. Advantages of Trolling:
    • Covers water faster.
    • It’s unconventional but effective, especially when Redfish are scattered and less active.
  3. Bait Choices:
    • Use natural baits such as mullet, menhaden, mud minnows, and pinfish.
    • Live baits should be hooked through both lips, from the bottom up, or through both nostrils for the best results.
  4. Presentation:
    • Avoid using weights and floats.
    • If necessary, add a small split shot to keep the bait at the desired depth.
    • Troll slowly. A trolling motor provides better control and maneuverability around structure and grassy edges where Redfish feed.
  5. Chumming:
    • Throwing out small pieces of cut bait as chum can attract and concentrate small schools of Redfish.

Trolling can be a game-changer on slow days and offers another strategy for targeting Redfish when traditional methods aren’t producing results. Happy fishing!
